About Us
Friends of Galileo is a friendly, family-oriented club. The club's name is meant to honor the early astronomer whose discoveries opened the age of astronomical enlightenment. The members of FOG are dedicated to advancing the understanding & enjoyment of astronomy through educational programs, practical experiences and social interaction. Telescope ownership is not a requirement!
Meetings and Programs
You'll enjoy an interesting selection of topics and programs.
Visitors are always welcome to participate on the third Wednesday of each month at the Mark Morris High School Large Group Instruction Center. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.
Directions: Turn south from Ocean Beach Highway at 17th Street. Park in the lot between the athletic field and the school. The Learning Center is adjacent to the cafeteria.
Viewing Events
The club organizes scheduled viewing events, as well as spur-of-the-moment star gazing opportunities.
Star Parties are May thru Sept and location and date TBA.
Of course, they are subject to weather conditions and/0r special celestial occurrences.
Membership
Membership includes all ages, from beginners to experienced viewers. Some are telescope makers and astrophotographers. We have teachers, millworkers, homemakers, doctors, students and retirees. You'll fit right in!
The annual membership fee of $24 is due the first of May, and includes the entire family.
Special Projects
In recent years, the club made a gift to Longview, Washington; a scale model Solar Walk, along the west sidewalk of Lake Sacajawea.
We also have painted a sun dial on the campus of Lower Columbia College, where your shadow will tell the time!
